Background
Buffalo, New York is the 2nd largest city in the state of New York and closely borders Lake Erie. There have been disputes regarding the origin of the name between historians. Some believe the city was named after the animal, and others believe it was named “Buffalo creek” by the Senneca Indians. Still others believe it was a variation of the French word “Beau-Fleuve,” meaning, “Beautiful River” as Buffalo was originally located along the Niagara River.
Buffalo is the economic hub for Erie County and is home to a host of famous persons, including baseball pitcher, Warren Spahn, Mallard Fillmore, and classic American author, Mark Twain, who wrote for the local Buffalo newspaper.
